The Experience of Solitude
The Experience of Solitude
This group of fifty (50) paintings cover the period from 2006-2008.
The subject that defines and unites these small paintings was inspired
out of a self study of the experience of being in the state of solitude.
I have been most fortunate in experiencing partnerships all my adult
life. With the exception of my formative years, I had no sense of what
was to be expected in this new world of living “alone”.
The study of self and solitude offered many unexpected revelations. To
my surprise there were relatively fewer dark moments to this
loneliness. Yes! There was sorrow, despair, fear but also the
experiencing of joyous self being.
There were moments where time itself fell off from my shoulders like
a wet discarded rug and star less nights where solar winds pricked
through my body.
There were moments where invisible observers wandered around my
domain observing my every gesture...moments of remorse, shame,
weakness of being, and...moments of grace.
It is with the profoundest humour that i share with the viewers a
journey we each have experienced...are experiencing and will experience
at one precious living moment or another.
